Event: National Book Club Conference

The National Book Club Conference will take place this weekend in Atlanta on July 30th – Aug 1st.

Events will include a special tribute to the late E. Lynn Harris, health and wellness panel discussions, maximizing your book club experience, and a host of other topics.

“The mission of the National Book Club Conference is to create the world's largest book-club meeting once a year, to promote the value of reading and formulating book clubs among adults and in the nation's public school systems for the purposes of advancing literacy, broadening youths' minds and knowledge through reading and dialogue”

Sounds good to me! I will not be in attendance but if you can make it, be sure to come back and let me know how it was!

Ignore Everybody and 39 Other Keys to Creativity by Hugh MacLeod

For a while, I had been brainstorming ideas to fill my entrepreneurial void. I thought I had finally come up with something but for some reason, I couldn’t make the project move – I was stuck. So when I saw this book, I knew I had to have it.

Ignore Everybody and 39 Other Keys to Creativity offers in your face advice on delving into a field that may require constant creativity. MacLeod covers everything from walking away from your day job to thinking you’ve landed your dream job. He also addresses the strains that can come upon relationships of those deciding to make great ideas come to fruition.

I didn’t walk away with 39 brilliant ideas to jump start my project, but I did walk away with clarity and one particularly awesome idea! I finally understood why I couldn’t move on my project. In key 7, MacLeod alludes to pursuing a venture just because you think it’s what the people want as opposed to starting a venture because you’re passionate about it. That made me rethink my motive. I immediately realized that the idea came from outside of me not inside of me.

So I continued to read. Finally, I came to key 37 entitled Start Blogging. I soaked up every word of that chapter and haven’t looked back! Of course blogging had crossed my mind before but for some reason, this time, it just clicked!

Days, months, years of brainstorming came down to one chapter of one book that I pulled out of the bottom of a clearance bin and purchased for less than $2. HA! I LOVE TO READ!!!!!

What inspires you to keep creating? What would you advise others to do when ideas stop flowing freely?
